Taking Your Kids to the Dentist and Why We Don’t

In this episode, we talk about dentists and why we don’t go to them. We didn’t start that way, of course. We both grew up doing “the right thing” when it came to dental care. But then we woke up, started asking questions and not liking the answers.

  1. What a timely podcast. My son’s school had a dental clinic where all the kids get checked however somehow my son’s class’s parents were never informed beforehand. So we had no idea it was going to happen and then my son came home with a letter saying that public health needed me to get a dentist to sign off saying that those issue has been looked at\resolved or I could fill in my information to get government funding for it. I was extremely mad and irritated and didn’t want children’s aid (social services in the USA) to get involved to I went to the dentist he saw the previous year and he confirmed it wasn’t a site situation and I could wait it out till those teeth eventually fell out (front 3 teeth). This was after I had gone for a routine cleaning (without fluoride as I’ve done for years now). At that visit the dentist said she didn’t feel comfortable looking in my mouth since I hadn’t had x-rays in over 2 years but this one time she would but said going forward she wouldn’t. So I said going forward I’m not coming back to you lol.

  2. As a dental hygienist, I loved this podcast and couldn’t agree more with you. You hit the nail on the head on more than one subject. That was a very well spoken podcast and I enjoyed listening to it, thank you.

The entire subject of “teeth”, the entire oral cavity, etc., is the proverbial “rabbit hole” that never ends. This is true with pretty much everything health wise these days (speaking as a US citizen).

Go with your gut…. take the time to listen to YOURSELF. Your own body is so unbelievably intelligent that it is hard to comprehend, at times.
